Post subject:  Nylon cup problems

I'm new to this forum stuff so lets see if I can make any sense.javascript:emoticon(':)') I've bought a 63 mini and need to replace the suspension cones in the front. I don't know if its normal but the nylon cups at the foot of the strut seem to be glued in and I can't get them out. The top of the cup is wrecked and I have to replace them to fit the boot and have it stay on. If anyone have some knowledge which could help I would be grateful.

The nylon cups tend to get stuck in there for whatever reason but they are pretty tough to get out. My preferred way(and since you are replacing them it wont matter...), get a flat screwdriver and jam it in between the arm and the cup. You then lever it out, invariably putting the screwdriver through the cup and hence you are able to then whang it out(fingers crossed...)

I put some stick lube in the cup as I place them in the arms - not too much though and make sure your new ones are all the way home in the relief.

Hooroo

Yeah, I replaced mine not long ago, they were the same. There should be hole on the underside of the control arm, if you can get something in that and tap up with a hammer, not too hard or it will just go thru the cup. Thats how i got mine out, might work.

Make sure you fit a set of "Hi-Los" into it all while you`re there,,,makes for easy ride height adjustment at any later stage if/when needed.

You won`t regret doing it & will thank me later

don't have the cash for hilows at the moment, trying to get the car ready for a road worthy. The car had 'home made' hilows on it an I was told by a mini machanic they are not RW.

if nothing else help try some heat, small torch or so, just enough to soften the nylon. then you can bend it to get it out
