I just bought a moke brass overflow tank, now where is the best place to fit it?

Does it need to be higher/lower than the radiator?

Where is the best place for it to fit?

I tried under the passenger wheelarch (deluxe) but there doesn't seem to be enough room.

Anyone with pics of where they put theres?

Can't help with a picture right now, but I fitted mine underneath the wheel arch. The bolts come through right up tight in the corner underneath the parcel shelf. Morris even provided a small hole up in the corner near the windscreen wiper motor to put a piece of 1/4 ID hose through to the tank.

Thanks Mick,

I don't suppose you would be able to supply a pic at some stage?

So both bolts came through into the interior of the car? (under the parcel shelf), so it is mounted in the 'rear' of the wheel arch, not on the same face as the shock mount (if fitted)?

Exactly!

I have the bolt heads snug in the corner under the parcel tray. Works a treat and has seen service for 9 years. I'll see what I can do about a pic this arvo.

How do you top it up? Or am I missing something :? I thought that when fitting one of these you just put a blank cap on the rad and then use the expansion tank to maintain the level.

The rad has a blank cap, normal cap on the expansion tank.

Easy to top up, I put a hose behind the wheel and fill it up that way, no need to lift it up or anything.

It'll blow out what it doesn't need and a happy equilibrium is reached by itself. No muss, no fuss and not in the engine bay.

Yeah that's them, bit more than pooter fans though, but they are 4 inch.

Die cast alluminium fans and frames, ball bearing and stall and short circuit protected. They draw 3/4 of an Amp all up. I've had them on 6 years now, I put them on in Darwin and they have replaced the fan.

Cos they are so quiet, I just have them run all the time. Seems to be better as the cooling system isn't playing catch up all the time.
P.S. My whole cooling system is well maintained and efficient. I wouldn't bother otherwise.

The brass tank was originally fitted to the Morris 1100. They were first fitted behind the front panel, in front of the subframe, so they can be fitted down low. Later on they fitted them next to the wiper motor on the firewall, so they can be fitted up high.

On a roundie I would fit it behind the grille above the subframe or on the inner guard on the clutch end of the engine bay unless it has a booster or matic heater. :wink:

Mine's on the other side of the engine bay - but it works fine and is easy to get to.

Thanks for the advice, now I know I have some flexibility in placement.
The position on the inner gaurd by the clutch end of the engine bay is reserved for the auxillary radiator! :wink: :wink: So under a guard is an idea I like. However, i'll wait till the motor is back in and see if there is an appropriatte space behind the grill....
