Hey I was looking around on the web and found these wonderful creatures. I was wondering if anyone in Aus or anyone on here has done the conversion.

I am contemplating attempting this one for myself.

What is involved?

See the shorty moke on ebay a week or so ago?

Basically, ya gotta be a top notch wealder, else ya gunna have to pay for it yaself, and it wouldn't be cheap, it would be extremely time consuming i'd say!

In theory it's easy, just chop the middle out, and weald the back to the front. Sit on the back seat. Other than that, nothing like mechanicals needs to be changed/modded.

That looks so good!
I think i would do a topless one....
a lot less work and would be a summer vehicle anyway (or at least a warm weather one without rain)

Brookie Pirates did eventually sell that one on eBay. I have a photo somewhere of it at Minifest 91 although it was Red then!

A mate in Geelong (Ken) has a shorty with a roof. It was done by a guy in Geelong and has changed hands a few times within the area. It was in Mini Magic once. Fully engineered and claimed to be the shortest road legal car in Oz! Unbelievably, it was engineered with a 1275 and FOUR WHEEL DRUMS! Yes, it has those details on the engineer's certificate.

I have driven it a couple of times. It now has a 1310 with a 45 Weber on it. It goes like the clappers, but the torque steer is unbelieveable and it darts all over the place when you put your foot down. I guess that's because the wheelbase is so short. It does a U-turn in one and a half lanes!

Mad fun! :D

Ken's actually looking to sell the Shorty soon.

He's also got an extended six wheeled Mini based truck and trailer that was also once in Mini Magic. As well as that he has a 1275LS, a Cooper S MkI, a UK import Austin 850 Super-Deluxe (which was one of my wedding cars), a TD2000 MGTD replica, a Model T van, a Model A ute, a Goggo Dart, a normal Goggo, a Mercedes 190SL roadster and maybe a few other classic cars I can't recall. So he's not short of interesting cars!

That's kinda what it looks like! It has the overhead exhaust pipes and mufflers and bull bar like a early 80's Mack. 8)

The shorty convertible from Brookvale was made about 12 years ago and I was there when he was built. It was pretty easy as he had no doors or roof to worry about. It used box section underneath to provide strength as well as along the inside of the sills, and yes you did sit on the rear bench . He was painted by Chris Adlam in purple and has always been that colour. The red one was built by another wrecker Car Clinic maybe????? If you ring Andew on 99382242 he may be able to help you with details of what happened to shorty, or how to build one of your own. G
