sounds like it may be a vapour lock problem - fuel sitting in the fuel line or pump gets hot and vapourises and the fuel doesn't get through until the vapour gets out. check that you haven't got any fuel lines passing close by the exhaust, and check that any heat shielding that is installed on the fuel lines is properly in place

Not sure if this model has a vented fuel cap or if the tank vents via the carbon canister up front. Either way the vent may be blocked and it may be making a vacuum in the tank.

Next time it's not starting, open the fuel filler cap and see if you get a rush of air going in. If it does and the car then starts OK just invest in a new VENTED fuel cap.

check the carbon cannister...
incorrectly plumbed up causes them to stop and not want to refire.

The Carbon Canister is a black plastic can, about 5 inches round and about 7/8 inches tall. On the late Rovers it's usually mounted up under the front radiator side guard. The engine and fuel tanks are vented via this canister, which is filled with carbon crystals that will absord any volatile fuel/oil vapores to stop them ventilating to the atmosphere.

If the problem is not a heat source vaporising fuel in the line, then it could be the carb. The HIF style carbies on the Rovers have a bi-metal device that will adjust the needle height to alter the mixture based on the temperature (replaces the "wax-stat" device that is used in the earlier HS style carbies like those used on Aussie Minis). Could be time for a good tune up or maybe even a carbie overhaul, but finding someone with the knowledge and parts may be difficullt. Don't be supprised if your local Mini Shops don't stock parts for them. If the problem can't be tuned out then it may be easier to change the carbie for a rebuilt older one off an Aussie Mini - but you'll still need someone knowledgable to set it up and jet it for your engine.
