Post subject: | Help for a Sick 1100 |
G'day, I am new to minis but hope to one day have a fraction of knowledge available here. A bit of background first, my mini is a Leyland S, Devil yellow. From what I can understand from the history it is a 998 stroked to 1100? uprated cam (don't know the type) and Russel Engineering Inlet manifold (uprated type). 1 3/4" SU with ramflo filter. The head has had some work done to it also. The engine is in a little bit of bother (me thinks). When I bought it I had it tuned at Mini Car Clinic (4 months ago). Was running ok, even though very rich. . It was idling at around 1000rpm after the tune. Now when idling the power tends to fluctuate, which often leads to it stalling. So currently I have just opened the choke a little. Still fluctuates but doesn't stall. Driving normally there doesn't seem to be any problems. Any ideas where to start looking? Carby maybe? Please help. |

Could be carb...could be electrical. How are the points and timing? |

Could be an air leak somewhere - check all the bolts holding the carby in place are tight and all gaskets are there. Skins |

998 and 1100's are the same block, with a different stroke. So yes, technically it has been stroked to 1100, but it's really just an 1100. I would put new points, spark plugs and leads in. Maybe a new coil aswell. If it doesn't fix your problem, you've still got new points, plugs and leads! |

Thanks for your help guys, good places to start. Prior to the tune up I changed the points and spark plugs. I will have a look over the weekend and let you know how it goes. Just another quick one while I am here, when the key is in the ignition turned to aux, the oil light has stopped coming on. Does this have any significant meaning? |

Got home yesterday and had a look under the hood. I don't think that it was anything major, the internals of the distributor cap were extremely dirty so I cleaned them up and this morning on my way to work no dramas. We will see how things go driving home and over the weekend. Thanks for all your advise. |
