Hey, In the next few months im looking to buy a trailer for around $1k which is able to be used to carry a mini, but if possible I'd like to get one which I could also use for general household duties.. so.. just wondering what other peoples trailers are like, if maybe a 10 x 5 would be suitable? Thanks in advance.. Also if you're thinking of selling one in adelaide, let me know

I had the same thoughts.... My Race Mini (roundie) just fits on/in a 10x5 box trailer..... However you can't open the doors.... 
Not a problem getting on -> winch and sliding windows are OK. Getting off - all I can say - it's still a work in progress to perfect the technique...... "Seemed like a good idea at the time...."

Heres my trailer, but its been repianted since these pics. Light,low, tows really well with the car on it, bit annoying without a car on it as it's a rigid trailer, oh well

Doogie Just watch out for that spare wheel on the side. It can have a mind of its own sometimes 
Jules..............who happened to be driving behind Doogie when said tyre decided to leave the trailer.

Sorry don't have one that isn't without a car on it. Now that the warmer weather is here the trailer will be getting a coat of paint too. I'm thinking Safter ORANGE!

ahh.. so i get the impression a small car trailer might be the better way to go?... might hire a 10x5 for a few hours and see how well the mini fits on and off, otherwise i guess its a car trailer for me too.. thanks guys

oh.. on the trailer note, I note that most of you have single axle trailers, any benifit gained by this or a tandem? thanks

Single Axel is cheaper to buy and cheaper to register. A mini really isn't all that heavy, so single axel is fine. I tow to Hay and back, as does doogie and almost all trailer you see there are single axel. I have seen a few mini's turn up in box trailers, but they all have a difficult time getting it in and out. Mine i can drive up onto and open the door. Brilliant! Last time i had a trailer priced to build it was $1200 custom built for a small car, IE a mini. City prices are stupidly expensive, so i rang a few country people and they were more than happy to do it for half the price of there city breathen. Cheers Aaron |

My Auto matic broke down at Hay, when I was with the Mini Club NSW for the Hay Nationals. My wife had to drive from Sydney with a hired car trailer and pick me and the mini matic up. I took a lot of photos of trailers at the Hay Nationals so you might find some ideas from them. See photos on my msn space on link below Suggest that you consider hiring trailer rather than buying unless you plan to use the trailer a lot. |

Here's mine: 
It's 11' x 5.5'. It was previously used to transport a sprint car. It's a little bigger than it needed for a Mini, but it also fits a mate's KE25 rally car. You can drive a Mini on it and open the doors and climb out as normal. Unless it's a hydro Mini with no fluid in it.
EDIT: The bucket is covering the winch, so water does not get into the mechanism when it's out in the weather. |

Here's mine. 9' x 5'^6" tilts from just forward of the axle to an angle of about 30 degrees which you can drive onto with short ramps. Deck is timber, but covered with a layer of fibreglass to prevent weathering. It has removable (drop-in) sides and front and rear hinged tailgates so that it doubles as a box trailer when not in use as a car trailer. Stone guard, winch, ramps and wheel chock attachments are all quick release and mount to the same points. Weighs 250Kg and rated at 1500Kg. Electric brakes are fitted. Cost about $600 to build. Oh, and it fits the Cooper 'S' as well.

great idea.... that's what I'm planning for when I get around to making a trailer - whenever that may be...
