Smash the bejesus out of it until it budges...took me 3 days with heat, oil, dipping, a vice, lots of patience and a sh&tload of swearing(seems to be a regular thing in my garage at the moment!!!)

Oxy,
Heat up the alloy (should only will need to be warm) all the way around, nuckle in the vice and then kinda unscrew the nuckle from the trumpet...real easy!
:-)

Set the trumpet up knuckle end down.
Pour in lots of WD40 (or pentrating fluid of choice).
Wait.
Place long drift (get one whose diameter is less than that of the pin on the knuckle joint) down centre of trumpet - make sure the drift rests on the end of the knucle and not the inside of the trumpet.
Suspend trumpet in vice using top flange (pad vice with bits of wood).
Bang on drift with hammer.

Cheers, Ian

It might hurt less than the oxy (I still have the scar - but no feeling from the last time I used on oxy)

Thats exactly how I do it. Works every time. Most of the time I dont even use WD40 or anything like that.

Unlike the way My_Mini_Rocks does it, you wont damage the knuckle by doing it this way, which is handy if the knuckle is salvageable

normally if they are frozen in the trumpet, they have been in there for a while anyhow and show signs of wear...

One of my old trumpest has a lot of what looks like really bad bubbling aroung the edge where the knuckle fits in. Looks like a heat caused thing - wikll get some pics for you. I dont think it would be safe to use it again and in fact I think it could collapse...

"Should only need to be warm",

Its alloy.....not to hot or you will easily distort it
What ever works for you all....
How do you think they get the metal in a mould!....heat it up and shape it....
