Post subject: | Oil Leaks |
Everyone says minis leaked oil from the factory, but how much is too much before you have a problem, after about a week of not driving my mini i have a puddle about 10cm by 10cm. the engine has done about 800kms since the rebuild, and i replaced all the gaskets, including rod change one with two seals and an o ring in the middle of the two. The leak seems to be coming somewhere under the rod change, or its leaking from somewhere else and driping there. what are the most common leaks spots? |

Most likely from the rod-change but it could be from the driveshafts. You will need to clean it right up and then give it a run and then lay under it and see where it is leaking from. Matt aka theminiman makes a better seal for the rod-change. |

Check your cam follower covers - they have a tendancy to seep if you missed the gasket(they tend to pull around...) Rod changes leak (mine does and has the same repair kit in it...). Did you install the O-ring before mating the box with the engine - if not you will have a massiive leak and low if at all oil pressure... Hooroo |

CPOCSM which o-ring are you reffering to, also when i got the engine it had done around 500kms, so it did no seperate the block and gearbox, i did however do all the other gaskets except the one between the engine and gearbox |

There is an O-ring that sits between the box and engine which allows the oil pump to draw oil up from the sump(G/B)to the oil pump and around the engine. Have a look under the car just above the drivers side pot joint. If this O-ring isnt there it will eventually come through the gasket and will appear as a curtain of oil around this area. The Gasket may hold it for a little while but the inevitable end is no oil pressure and a lot of oil on your garage floor. This is worst case though - keep looking as if it is from the drive joints - easy fix... Hooroo |
