Was driving home from Fyshwick this afternoon trying to find a head gasket for Henry(flat out on a Sunday I know) and went around the corner of Newcastle and Canberra Avenue when I went to put the clutch in and pedal went straight to the floor - without disengaging the clutch. Seems I had lost the R-clip and the pin had come out. Thought about matching revs and driving home but pulled over instead and silly me - stopped the car.

Had no choice now but to try and find a way to fix the problem. An hour passed and after much cursing and 3 good samaritans(Thanks whoever you guys were...A Commodore, WRX and an F-100), I managed to wedge an allen key in there(found it on the side of the road!!!)and it got me home.

Never take the toolbox out of the car when you are just popping down to the shops!!!

Thats not fun.

Is there an easy fix for a frucked potjoint seal?
Mine isn't the healthiest.
And i cannot be bothered to do it.
Maybe on Saturday i'll tackle it.

Here here my good man never take your toolbox out of the car..... ohh wait a second I dont even have one ...shhh don't tell anyone. I do have a screwdriver , jack , and a spanner. but no box.

*Blinks* however thank god for roadside assist got me out of 3 nasty painful times. One being when I had a runbber seal at he bottom of the air filter box wedged in the hole and was choking my poor engine and making it stall if the revs got below 1500.

hmmm maybe I shouuld invest in a toolbox :oops: :oops: :)

Or one of those cheap GMC tool bags from bunnings for $10. I learnt this trick off chop chop, plenty of room for basic tools, petrol can, one man bleed kit, brake fluid, oil, etc... 8)

I use a cheap plastic tackle box... 8)
It can't short out the battery.... :lol:

Yepp - mine are always plastic - for the same reasons as the Dr - pity it was sitting on the floor of the garage this arvo!!!

You can drive the car without the clutch but it is tricky taking off from traffic lights! You need to turn the motor off and stick it in first gear and hit the starter when you want to go. :shock: It is very hard on the starter but it could get you home. :wink:

I trust my Rover and probably don't carry as many tools as you do in the car.
I also carry my most handy tool... the RAA Membership Card!!!

How about hill starts :wink:
I did this for about 20km in a Mini once.
Hill starts are a BASTARD with no clutch!!!

Buy a decent battery, 550+CCA, then no problemo. 8)

i got a spare tyre but no jack. :roll: . i have a cardboard box in the back of my mini. got the oil, radiator fluid, brake fluid, plastic gloves, zip ties, superglue, bent spanners, couple of old t shirts, and packets of bolts and screws and washers and stuff. (but no screw drivers yet). i should probly add some usefull stuff.

i'm halfway there, or atleast almost halfway.

I drove a truck around Sydney without a thrust bearing one day.... It took a lot of planning! If you are going uphill the trick is not to stop in the first place. So you need to creep along until the lights change. With a truck it is fairly easy due to the low gears they have. In a Mini if you get stuck on a hill you just roll back down the hill till you can turn around and then you are moving again. :wink:

My father used to have to crank the Wolsley over the Toowoomba range - IN REVERSE!!!
just to get it over the top(cost him a fortune in starter motors...lol)

Drove a little 998cc 73 Clubby over the range still in third gear(just!!...very just). Was a lot steeper in Dads day though - and the bitumen wasnt the best either - used to come away in big table sized chunks as the trucks caused it absolute grief!!

Tools, RAA, all of these good but to be real safe, bring spare engine in boot. ONe guy doe it racing, its called umm twini... :lol: oh he uses that engine...Actaully me and my dad were actaully considering it for the hay trip but driving there in a 1330, blowing it up and coming home in a 998 just didnt seem as fun..plus the boot was filled with oil and fuel as my tank sender doesnt work..all the way to hay without knowing the fuel level, so much fun! And these minis can burn more fuel than oil on occasion not mine but i've seen some!, well not mine yet! :wink:
