Look at the shape- if they have gone fat where the cone fits, they are past it. Should be a single curve to the outside shape.

It's nearly time to start putting my subframes back together. I've got a few old rubber cones laying around. Don't know whether to lash out on a new set. One pair out of a rear subby is about 82mm high, another set also out of a rear subby is 77mm. Ones out of front subby are event shorter as expected. So the question is, what should the threshold be for throwing away? I had initially been offered to sort through a large pile of old cones and find the best, but I believe that offer no longer stands. At the moment I'm thinking about maybe buying a new pair, and using the best of the old ones. What would be the best: old ones in the front or the back? (and yes I have hi-los) What are the experiences of people who have bought new ones? Happy? Worth it? Does anyone know where to get them cheaper than $100 each I have been quoted? |

You gets what you pays for. Get genuine rubber cones, stick a new pair in the front and the best of the old ones in the rear. Avoid coilovers, they are not a step up, and mini subframes/ body are not designed to take the stresses. (Coilovers + Mini = Good = MYTH) For real suspesion, go hydro!

Also watch out for crazing. Ozone depletes the rubber and makes it fail. Bahave like bending an eraser in half. This is caused by age. So old rubber anythings should be inspected for cazing not just the shape. |

I would New cones in the front and wind the HiLo's as low as you can and the talest of the old (after Inspection) in the rear. Atleast if the rears seams to low they are the easiest to remove and replace Okay can someone measure what hight new one are.. Please

Matt, new cones in the front and old ones in the back will DEFINITELY make the front too high. This happened to me and I had to buy Hi-Lo's to fix the problem. If you have the money, buy genuine new cones all round. Don't do one end and not he other. |
