I got my rego renewal today and i was just wanting to ask if the details of my car sound normal...

How long should a VIN be? Mine is only 5 digis long whereas my Toyota's VIN is 17 digits long. :?

Also, what engine would i have seeing that the engine number i have is ...BHM1441N... ?

It is registered with the following details...

1967 Morris Mini Deluxe
Serial No... 9784972
VIN... 27286
Engine no... BHM1441N

Just curious to know what can be made of these numbers.

The VIN number is right, thats just the body number that is stamped on your car and on your id plate. I think the Serial Number is just a number that Vicroads use. Regarding the engine number wouldn't have a clue. Sounds a bit off though??

Yeah, the engine number sounds weird... i keep seeing other people's engine numbers being listed (mainly in for sale ads) and none of them sound remotely close to mine. I've checked and there is a little plate screwed onto the block with that same number stamped into it so at least something matches.

To my knowledge it's an MG Metro A+ engine. Someone i spoke to reckons it would be something of the 1984 era. But i think that was just a guess.

your block could have been decked and then taken to the police to get some new numbers put on it to make sure it doesnt get mistaken for a stolen engine.
call the PO PO and find out

just out of interest..can i ask how much it is to get ur car rego'd in VIC?
being in nsw (and my rego due early next year) i need to start saving rapidly NOW..
as the greenslip is something around $570 (this may be increased? stupid john woods adverts something about children being better looked after but greenslips increasing? )
then rego itself is $200
in ACT i know you can pay 1/4 or 1/2 or the full..and its slightly cheaper..
lemme know tanks,

hmm... i might have to do some more investigating. I was hoping that people would recognise the engine number. Hope there's nothing dodgy anbout it. I mean, the little plate that the number is on is held onto the block with screws so it could easily be removed and changed. :?

Oh, and i got my rego bills for my two cars yesterday... they're due two days apart. Dunno how i managed that. :x

Rego bills:
Toyota Cressida... $280 (incl. disability pension discount 8)) due: 25 Oct.
Morris Mini... $560 (full amount) due: 23 Oct.

Smokie, I dunno where you got $473 from... i paid it last year and it was like $545 or something. Never been below $500 since i've owned the car at least.

Possible that in the country area it is cheaper but I am not going to ask just in case they change it..

But that's the price it says on my rego form..
