Post subject:  The tyre food chain (yes, another tyre thread!)

I want to buy some tyres this week, excluding price, availability and life,
what would people say are the BEST tyres (all round, wet and dry) for a mini?
By all means comments on price and life would be good too.

I'm not having much luck finding tyres in stock for the size, brand, whatever I want,
so I'd like to know the next best thing in the food chain as I call it.

Thanks.

best bang for buck= yokohama a539 in 175/50/13 around $120 a tyre i think.

pirelli have some around the $200 mark, have been told there similar in performance to the yoko's

cheaper still is the SIME in the same size at around $95 a tyre but dont like the wet and are only good if you like them to last years and drive like a granny.

there is always the race type yokohamas a048 ? around $200 a tyre, probably last around 10 000kms on the rd maybe.

for race track i got some second hand formula ford tyres from Gordon Leven
Tyres for $50 each.

Has anyone got a model number for the Pirellis?
I've used them on other cars before and never had a problem with them.

I know I can get some A048s, just have to decide if they'll be worth it for me.

i agree with that, having had both i think the pirellis are superior to the a539's

Not at all.
They are a road approved tyre.

The only reason that they are road approved is so you can race on them in classes that say you must run road tyres. They are surprisingly good in the wet, even when buffed down to slicks. 8)

Hanra, how much did your Dunlop Formula R D01J's set you back? And is that 10" model?

Anyone suggest a supplier for tyres?
I found a place with A048s, but I wanna keep options open to the Formula Rs if
I can find some and the Pirellis and A539s. :D
