Post subject:  Sill seam de-seaming

I was thinking about removing the sill seam (?) on my clubby van project for a 'smoother' look (and so the bloody things don't stab me in the shins  ). I am thinking of using innocenti arches, fibreglassing them so they flow with the body (like this: http://www.ausmini.com/forums/viewtopic ... sc&start=0 ) and then grinding off the part of the seam between the wheel arches.

If you can make sense of all of this give me your ideas/thoughts on how it would look and whether it is structurally sound to do so.

cheers.

I'd suggest against it, not only for all the work, the loss of strength in the shell, the bit where rust repair in the future is all that much harder, but mainly the fact minis look
ugly and wrong without the gutter seam. :D

Oh wait...you're talking about the lower one......can't help. :D

i think itd look kinda cool, but may have issues with rust, and also distortion trying to weld to the panel behind the door! also that little bit behing the rear wheel would be a pain on a salon!

im not a fan of de-seaming, but i dont mind it when the rear bumper is de-seamed and removed. so i dont think it would look good and its more work then its worth, i saw a really nice mini shell once for sale that i wanted to buy, when i got down there it was de-seamed...turned me off it straight away.

My mini is deseamed (check my photobucket album below if you like) but the seam around the roof and around the bottom (where you clip the chrome side skirting onto) is still there. I just can't see a mini without these bits deseamed too... would be wierd.
