hmmm....it might be 'mini' as in 'small' rather than BMC / Leyland Mini.

EDIT: looks like a bullet hole in it

It appears to be a radiator overflow. Bloomin useless unless your mini loses alot of water thru overflow from being too hot.
And even then, the price of distilled water and coolant is nix.

It is the radiator overflow tank from a Morris 1100 (and some mokes)
They are a good thing to have but that one is missing the pipe that goes from the radiator (that is what the bullet hole is) The pipe goes to the bottom of the tank so it can suck the water back out of the tank.

My Mokes got one. Basically, it allows ya to carry more water. They aren't an overflow tank, they are an expansion tank. The regular radiator cap goes on that (the spring one), and a cap that just seals (doesn't have the springy thinga) goes on the radiator.

That make sense?

Mine's only done 260,000kms.... plenty of life in the old girl yet.
Towing the boat up big hills it used to overheat. So far, it's had 1 leaky head gasket replaced, 2 full sets of hoses, a fan hub, an overflow tank, and a big$ oil cooler added for tranny. Still got hot.. :x
Finally found out the 2 core ally radiator was half blocked with corrosion.
I hate bloody aluminium rads- so it's now got a nice new 3 core Natrad taxi one in there.. no moreproblemo... 8)

Mine's at 310,000 (thrashed all the way from 197,000km when i got it) and the first time it went was at 200,000 almost to the km.
It'll be getting a full re-build and is getting a head off of and el falcon as the castings are much better and it will be getting an ecu friendly cam + port& polish + bigger valves.
It all adds up to much more fun even on dry days  8)

Post subject:  EA

I just sold my EA, it had done 285,000 ks when I got it and the speedo no longer counted the Ks, I towed cars all over the place with it and treated it very badly but it just kept going.

i had a similar setup on mine when it was going, i went and bought a twin sealing cap, bottem and top rubber seals in the cap it self, and a 600ml solo bottle from kfc i think, i just zip tied it in front of the rad behind the grill there, drilled a hole in the cap, with a bit of hose going into it... once it heated up, you could see the bottle would neally be full, but once it cooled down, it sucked it all back in... everytime you took the cap off, its be full.. :)
