Christ! That has to be the ultimate custom mini. Okay, there's very little of the original car left (I recognise the windscreen surround and that's about it..), but I can't think how you could make it more extreme. Not exactly my taste but a superb example of what can be done.

And more or less done by one bloke over 12 months? I think I changed the oil in my mini last year

That is totally unbelievable I knew that Mini's are said the be the most customisable car in the orld with all the go fast and good loks bolt on bits etc... but that's definately "the custom job". Although I prefer the look of Mutant, the work and engineering involved in that is certainly "crazy to the extreme"!!

Each to his own, I suppose

Could look OK if it was all Jet Black, but everything is over the top
- all the colours, the mods, 22 gauges !

but then I suppose that is the whole point of the thing

Yeah i think the garish, over-the-top paintwork suits it, for the reason that the car itself is mad so the exterior might as well be too.

Bugger, that looks like a MK 1 (might be wrong as I was too lazy too read the article).
Very impressive job, absolutely rediculous, but great. I do wish he'd butchered a none-mini though, for example a beetle? Just joking but yeah, another mini destroyed but thumbs up to the maker! BTW the continous spelling of Mini being MINI, why? I know thats the the BMW trademark but it's not a BMW so why do they call it a MINI, not that I have anything agaisnt MINI's but it's kind of annoying to see Mini spelt MINI i mean do you call a Ford Escort a Ford ESCORT, no you don't. Oh well just the obvious lack of knowledge of the model by the author of the article.

Yeah didn't think of it that way, so yeah lack of knowledge of the author and general public, the mini was too good for america, while they were stil driving (and still are) tanks of cars that looked up to date using huge inefficient engines more that were way out of their used by date! Hehe you could almost say the same thing about the mini (engine wise) but nah mini's are too good!

Minis were sold in USA, up until 1967.
Many have been shipped over there since, even late model Sportspack Coopers have been re-VINned as 1972 or whatever.
There is a 25 year rule for imports, but in Cal it is now not a rolling exemption, but is fixed at 1975 model year I think.
Thanks to Arnie...

There is quite a cult following there. Yanks do take their old Minis seriously- I've seen a shmick Cooper 1275S go for US$50K.
