I have two spare camshafts;

1) Spider drive 1/2" lobe camshaft. Fresh regrind 50 miles use. Was reground to Cooper S mk2 spec. ("plus a bit")

2) Cooper S mark 2 Camshaft, 1/2" lobe, no fuel pump lobe. Looks to be VGC, has done a few thousand miles before removal from the old engine, have been told it has never been reground.
NB How do I check if it has been reground?

GR says the cooper s camshaft is the better cam for regrinding, (better material I think is what he meant?) but the oil pumps are non existant.

I want to keep one for the next engine build, but which one?

Is the cooper S camshaft worth anything more than the other?

Cheers
Matt

As said the good pin drive pumps are scarce.
It's possible to convert the pin drive cams to slot drive by TIG welding an adaptor (which has to be made) in the back of the cam.
The spider drive ones are OK too but the spiders are NLA now.

Can old pin drive pumps be reconditioned? What about swapping the drive over from a buggered pin drive onto a new pump?

Ok, probably would have been done if it was a good idea.

The only NEW pin drive S pump availabe seems to be the MiniSpares Sureflo one.
There have been some problems on race Minis with the shaft in these pumps breaking the `ears' off the slot, as the shaft material is really soft. TOO soft.... :?
If you are running these pumps (as I still am) don't thrash it when the oil is cold. That extra oil pressure doesn't help...............

Years ago, all the pump rotors were keyed onto the shaft and yes it was possible to swap shafts, eg put a wide lobe S pump into a 998 by fitting the shorter 998 shaft.
These days the rotor seems to be swaged on, or a press fit, so the old idea is no go.

My new 1412 stroker is getting an RE13 cam (S pin drive shaft) but I'll convert it to take a slot drive pump. :wink:
