OK, down the track a little I want to get a new front windscreen as the original one is scratched and 'pitted' from 38 years of bug and gravel impacts!

So I want a Laminated windscreen, I will use a new locking strip and rubber. I have been quoted $220 for fitting one from the local windscreen place (if i supply the rubber and locking strip.)

He says it has a blue strip of tint across the top.

What is people's experience with new windscreens? Are there some better than others?

What about the srtip of tinting? Sounds very 80s....

cheers

I got a newy a few years back from like instant windscreens. Its a good fit. Has a slight tint across the top but i think it looks ok. $220 is a good price if they fit it as well. Saves u having to deal with a fiddly job.

Is the car issured with Shannons? Free windscreen every year on most classic car policies. Ring the, get a qoute number, ring a windscreen mob, tell em its on insurance they will look after the rest.

Hay, it's not about the car, it's not about the venue, it's about the people that come here. Peter Dwyer, Mayor of Hay NSW.

Yep, car is insured with Shannons. Doesn't there have to be a broken windscreen to get a new one?

I guess that may happen one day.

Do they cover the rubber and chome locking strip?

Cheers
Matt

Remember the old rule: If it aint broken, break it!

Then it will definately be under your free windscreen policy.

If its scrathed that a reason to have it replaced, it does'nt cover rubber & locking strip, buy those & get the installer to fit them.

The blue tint(stip) is manufauctured into the screen. It looks good and helps when driving into the sun :D
I am selling tinted and non-tinted windscreens for $150.00 to Members of Mini Clubs in Perth-so if you shop around you should get a better price

I had the band tinted screen in my LS. I am 6 foot tall and the tint was a pain in the arse because you were always looking through the bottom of the tint. (the view on a hilly road was going in and out of the tint and it was rather annoying) If you are short you can ignore this.

Your saying thats 220 just for instalation arent???

If you are, then, how do they get away with that.. its So simple with the tool...oil the rubbers a lil and fit the locking strip....

Might need two people to put the window in.

I borrowed the tool from the mini workshop i go to.

and mmmmm, would love to have one of those kool new windscreens.

goodluck
