Post subject:  Help choosing carby set up.

My new engine is being put together very soon and I'm trying to figure out what would be the best carb set up to run.

The block is an 1100S 1275 that is .100" oversize. The pistons, I'm not sure what they are, my mechanic reckons they are some kind of mazda piston? EN40B small journal crank and balanced small journal rods. The cam is pretty gnarly, a Pipercross BP285 attached to dualchain adjustable cam gear. The head is a heavily ported 12G940 with normal sized valves and double valve springs. I think that's all the info you boffins will need ;)

I've got a set of matched 1.5" SU's all set up from my previous engine. There's a set of matched 1.25" twins sitting around that I haven't put together yet, but I think these might be a bit small? I also have a reco HIF44 on a Minispares manifold sitting my shed, just kind of looking pretty.

Which set up would people recommend out of these two, or any other suggestions? As you might be able to tell I am a bit of a carby hoarder... A few more wont make any difference

Twin 1.5s gets my vote.
Unless you want it to gurgle nice, 8) then think Dellorto 45DHLA or Weber 45DCOE.
A Redline 3005 manifold is fine with a 45 for road use, if well ported out.

I like my twins 1.5"s too :P I've been thinking about a Webber or Dellorto but don't want to cut a box into the firewall... I've got a full custom dash and to put a box in would mean carving wood out of the back of the dash.. Do these fit without firewall modification? I've heard of the "Swan neck" manifold which allows them to fit, but also heard they aren't the greatest for performance. Comments or opinions??

Redline 3005 fits with a Ramflo filter, no box needed.
Mine flowed about 137CFM stock, after my mods GR flowtested it at 189. 8)
Now, it's even biggerrrrrrrr. I would guess it flows ~200CFM.
45 Dellorto carb is now running 38mm chokes.

i got twin 1.25, but my engine is much less crazy than yours. Dr Mini! Yeah Iim seriosuly considering that option, I like that! How much would that all cost I reckon I can source a 45 or 40 can't remeber I think it was 45 weber resto for about 250, then I'd need neck and filter, and I could sell my twin setup, which are ok condition, unresto but run great...any ideas anyone?

IM actaully seriously going start getting parts together for a 45 weber, I spoke to my dad about it and he thought it would be a good idea, for noise and wank factor only! HAHA my mate has a 1980 RS2000, he thinks it's tough cos its got a 45...I'll show him!
