Just to change the topic from copyright :)
When I restore the 850 van in a couple of years, I would like to put an original like engine back into it soooo, how rare are 8YUH..... engines? I'm guessing they are harder to find than the poor old hens molars

Unless you are going for absolute originality....why bother :?: You can whack an all synchro box under a 998 or 1100 and have a much easier car to drive in todays traffic  :D

[puts up hand as having an "original" 850 under the work bench  ]

I'm just an idealistic fool I suppose Mick :) The ultimate would be to have the original motor in it but after that I thought to have an engine with the same prefix would be good. The original was 8YUH20608 but that would have been melted down years ago I suppose :(
Still would be nice to put it back to original.

I can honestly say that after all the minis I have owned and wrecked and all the bits and pieces I have thrown out, that I have never owned an 850.

Pretty funny when you think that most people are changing up not down :)
Anyway, the other one will be the fun car with a 1275. This one will be the little old man of the family. I've decided to name him Pa after my dearly departed Grandfather. I think it suits considering the colour and all :)

That only works if you know where the original engine is. For all we know it could be in someones car or shed.

You will be able to find an 850 quite easily mind you so many get thrown out. Have you driven an 850?

They require a certain skill of being driven almost at the limit and a good sense self accepting that everyone is going to pass you and you will be a harzard on the road in certain situations because if some dill makes you lose what little revs you have it takes a lot to get them back if at all.

They are still reasonable swift on the flat and in traffic if you keep the revs up and because they are after all a mini and handle very well.

If you haven't driven one and are out on a cruise or in Sydney PM and come over Dorothy the green one is back on full rego.

Thanks for the offer Steve. I'll be on the Hunter drive but I'm not sure when I'll be down in Sydney with some spare time next.
Although I haven't driven an 850 yet, I do understand that it will be a completely different experience. Eventually when I do restore it though I will have the fun Mini on the road so the van will be fine to potter around in on a drive every now and then. I would seriously consider the club registration too.
