Any Auto-sparkies out there? Will the Pulsar D4R 83/85 electronic dizzy work on a positive earth car (Bugeye Sprite) ? I know I could change the earth on the car over to negative, but I'm rather fond of keeping that aspect original. ![]() |

I don't think you can.... Problem is that it is a transistorised ignition, and they are very polarity sensitive. Second to this is that there is a wire for the +ve side of the coil, and one for the -ve side of the coil, but nowhere is there a dedicated ground connection for the current to pass through to ground from the coil (the negative side of the coil is really a misnomer, it is simply closer to ground than the positive side, a bit like saying the Geelong side of the Westgate Bridge..). This means that it must be inside the distributor itself and probably near to impossible to convert without quite a bit of work and ingenuity. If you have ever tried to install a car stereo into a +ve ground car, you will know the dramas that await you. |

Thanks Mick, I was pretty sure it was a no-go because of the transistor polarity situation, I just wanted some confirmation. ![]() By the way I'd never fit a stereo to the Bugeye, it makes all the right noises without one, and I doubt that the old Lucas generator would take the load anyway. ![]() |
