Show us your fuel cap(s)

I am interested in seeing pics of fuel caps that people use.

Also interested in whether they leak or not.

I use the standard stainless steel screw on cap and it leaks. My previous Mini leaked too, with several different types of caps.

What is the diff between vented and non-vented?

Might not be the cap leaking, the black rubber seal thing might need a change.

Get yourself a 7.5 gallon tank from Japan(they come in non-efi!! before someone pulls me up... ) as they have the little flappy thing to stop you stuffing the leaded filler hose into an unleaded tank...since installing mine have had nil leaks...

The other option would be only fill it to 3/4...lol. The standard caps will leak but I think the Dr has a quick fix solution(I tried the thicker cork and rubber - no workies...hence the new fuel tank.

I have also tried new cork and new rubber on caps. No go.... still leak.

I am not too worried about my current daily hack, except it's white and the stains are yellow-ish :x

I've cut two new seals for my car's twin tanks because I've been keeping the tanks full now that fuel prices have been coming down. I got sick of the stink of fuel as it leaked down the side of the mini. They're a little thicker than standard and they soften with the petrol.
I started seeing elephants crossing the road after a while from sniffing the fumes.

I just cut them from rubber sheet that you can get from blackwoods. The rubber swells at first cos it doesn't like petrol very much, but I cut them a little smaller and they calm down after a little while. I'll throw a photo on tonight.

i got mine from padstow mini spares, can get matched pairs so you only need one key, think they were around $50 for the 2, never leaked.

I cut out some gasket material for it ages ago and it hasn't leaked since.

How did you fit the cork? Stretch it over the centre piece? That is the same as my current cap.

yep - just stretched it over. was a very tight fit as was the cap at first. Still snug and no leakes. Having said that the car hasn't been driven for over a year!!

Mine is the Monza style, had to b a bit cautious when fitting the brass collar, but seems to do the job.

On some minis you will find that the neck on the tank is not flat and no matter what you do you will not get a cap to seal.
You can fix it by building up the surface with solder and filing it flat.

I fitted a Aston cap and i used a falcon locking fuel cap (Aunger LC 0 Eight) and it seems to work ok.

Got the same. Work great and only one key! My RH tank leaked like crazy as the nexk didn't stick out far enough so it wasn't sealing fully. Now it seals perfect, but the enxk of the tank is out too far...SO more pushing and shoving must be done.
