Post subject: | Battery drama's |
Howdy all, I have recently purchased a 64 morris 850 and the problem I have is that the battery seemed to lose charge over the last couple of days. Since i've had it it needed to go to the mechanic to get a C.V joint replaced and when I picked it up this morning it started then lost charge and needed a jump start. Then in the afternoon I was returning home from down the road and hard a sound from the boot and electrical smell and then the battery died again. My dad came to bail me out and jumper leads did the trick, but why does it keep on losing charge. Do I need to fully charge this on a "trickle charger' or take it to get the battery tested. Also if i do use the charger is this any particular voltage the charger needs to be. Sorry for the longwinded post , but any help I could get on this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. |

I don't the sound of the noise, smell, and battery dying bit, but I would at least go around and check all the leads and earth straps to make sure they are all tight and the earth straps have a good metal to metal contact. Check that nothing metallic can short across the terminals (do you use a boot board or battery cover? Then I would get the battery condition checked. It may have a collapsed cell or be sulfated and not accepting a full charge. If it's sulfated it will need to be charged with a high powered charger in which case it MIGHT recover, otherwise it is a new battery time methinks. KB |
