Post subject: | Symptons of a small tappet gap (Novel) |
I have re set my tappets today, now the car seems to be running rough and weak at idle (could be various other reasons though) What i think is interesting though, is that BEFORE i adjusted the tappet clearance , they all had roughly similar clearances, except one in particular.. which was had about 50thou. And it just so happened that this was the strongest performing cylinder when i took the leads off each spark plug individually! perhaps 15 thou is too small?? I was told i have the 'works' cam, max power at roughly 7.5k/ start to feel it start to edge in at 2.5k what was the works coopers gap, should i run this too?? its a modded 1100 btw, and was going quite well through the gears before i readjusted advice is appreciated :) |

All valve rocker clearances are set to 12 thou. All models, except Cooper "S". are set cold with the latter set hot. |

But when you have bigger cams and better ratio rocker arms you need to increase the clearance. I would probably try 16thou but you could just increase them all a little at a time. |

Correct as per Morris 1100 once you increase from the standard cam the gap should be wider at the Tappets also What method did you use to check the Gap...Mine is in the How to Section |

Good Stuff..did you check them twice or three times by chance rather than the once. Open the gap to around 15 then and see how she goes then |
