Anyone know much on these? I was looking at one the other day and was trying to figure whether the metal tubes that run off the head simply feed hot air into your fuel / mixture? What do the holes in the head lead into? Is it an air pocket? ![]() |

Hi, Clubbys with this head had an air pump that pumped air into the exhaust ports of the head to assist unburnt fuel burnoff and dilution before it exited the tailpipe. It's a bunch of crap most people have removed. Same system ws used on numerous cars in the late 70s and 80's. You can get plugs from plumbing supplies places to block the holes in the head. |

I got one of these on my car at the moment. The pollution control is pretty pointless, I was told that emissions were measured as a ratio of exhaust:air, so to meet standards you just pump more air in, but you still have the same amount of exhaust ![]() ![]() Oh and if anybody knows where to get plugs for the air pump holes I'm interested, I had no luck round the usual places here in Canberra. Ah.....so the holes in the head do lead somewhere?!? I was looking real hard on this head to see where they lead to, and couldn't see cr@p. Thanks for that. ![]() For rego purposes I have to have that gear on my motor. I think NSW is strict on that sort of thing,.... well for unregistered cars anyway. Once It's registered I will block it all off. ![]() |

Had to take a Weber off and put all that pollution crap back on my 82 Gemini years ago for the same reason. You can always block all the hoses and take the vanes out of the pump. Then it *looks* like it all works and RWC inspector will be happy! ![]() |

These days 99% of the air pumps are stuffed anyhow. ![]() If you want to plug the air injection ports the thread is 7/16" UNF. I bought 4 grubscrews that size last week at Lee Bros in Parramatta, they cost me bloody $3 each!!! ![]() <edit> fixed typo.. |

Jam, I have an old charcoal canister here from my clubbie which I did a blue slip on. I just stiuck it in the engine bay before I did the blue slip but on the way there It came loose and fell into the engine bay. I pulled over and took it all out and it passed no problem probably because people think all minis are old and pre EPA rules. if it's just for a pink slip I wouldn t even worry about it. If it's for a blue slip I probably still would not worry but you can borrow this canister if you want. |

Anton, I got Clubbie charcoal canisters here if you want one for nix.. ![]() Our `78 Clubbie (998) passed blue slip a few years back without the air pump or the air plumbing. It even still had the thermo housing with the pump mount on it... ![]() But when I took it back to do the right thing & change engine # records (now has 1132 in) they told me the new motor was too old.. 1975..? Same freakin' blocks...! Bugger it- I was pi$$ed off and just drove it away. They never check engine #s for pink slips in NSW now anyway, just the VIN plate. ![]() |

![]() Thanx to both of you re: the charcoal canister. I have one of those, even though all the charcoal has leaked out.... I have the air pump and all that jazz too......I really hate having to fit it, but I think I will for Blue Slip purposes. After that, it's coming out. |

The charcoal canister can be quite useful - if you tip the crap out of it, it is just the right size to fit an air horn compressor in ![]() Thanks for the details of the grub screws Kev. I went to Specialty Fasteners a while back (THE only place to get this sort of stuff in Canberra), and they couldn't help! I didn't think the thread was a rare one of anything, since one of my holes is blocked off with a seatbelt mounting bolt!! All the others are dodgy too - I simply broke apart the air lines and blocked 'em off, it's not like the head is going to be on there much longer anyway. Anto. |

yea grub screws are the go. I will give that a whirl after rego for sure. I actually thought they were tapered threads....like on gas fittings....dunno why. |

Aren't some spark plus 7/16 UNF? That would be a great way to get rid of unburnt fuel in the exhaust! Afterburners, here we come! ![]() |
