Post subject: | Custom Dash |
How many people on the forum have made their own custom dashboards? I found a website that tells exactly how to do them, but was wondering if anybody could tell me how hard they really are to make and to fit to the car fron personal experiences. |

Made mine, took 30 mins to make and a few hours to fit. I just made a carboard template, then made sure all measurements were right and cut the wood too big, then trimmed and filed till it fitted then came up with a unique way of fitting it (my dad did that ![]() BTW that's an old photo it's all laquered up and shiney now ![]() ![]() |

slinky inc how the hell did you make that with out making it bend, i did the exact same thing and i had to make it in 3 peices, i tried to make it one but it wouldnt fit, the curve of the dash just would allow it, could we have a different dash |

could you give an updated photo of the dash, clearer if possible? It looks really good for a DIY job. |

there ya go.. another style i guess to help you out.. all up took three days, although there was a month between the second and third because of not buying the covering... i find when im building a dash its easier to keep testing things rather then build something off a plan only to find it doesnt fit.. i used no measurments making that one.. its build around my car.. if you can make the basic panel then its very simple to work around that, and add things on and design what you like.. your imagination is your limit really.. also as said above, the rover or clubman dash pad at the top and the bottom if there is no console makes life so much easier. as it gives you a straight edge and a lip to rest it on.. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

doesnt hit my foot, i sat the bit of wood there and drew around where my foot rests.. cut the hole.. works great. ive attached it at either side using a v shaped peice of metal which gets drilled into the metal, then the other side gets screwed into the dash.. i will take a photo of it if you like tomorrow |

That's pretty much what I was thinking cut a hole for your foot, centre console sure as hell looks good! I'm still considering that route as I still got left over wood in the same veneer as my dash. BTW it's plywood with veneer, I would have prefered walnut but that would cost money and this didn't so I'm happy. Centre console is real nice tobe connected and in theme to dash, the best I've ever seen is a mate from my school. His little red mini has got a aluminium dash and centre console covered in red vinyl. It's great. I'll ask him to post some pics. |
