What racing car clubs are available for mini racing in SE QLD?
I have discovered the mini owners club to not be actively involved.

So any suggestions?

(no, mini still in shed not going right :cry: )

So does the HRCC have driver training or track days? As you know I have never done any motor sport and won't be competitive but would like to have a bit of track experience and fun!

Matt, if you`re in Warwick then get onto Bruce "Bunchy" Bunch, he runs the exhaust shop there in town, good friend of mine & will help you get into all that stuff. Him & Pat (his partner in crime :-) ) run a pair of light blue minis that look almost identical, they`re good fellas & will point you in the right direction & help where they can.

Hi Matt,

Yep I know Bruce and Pat well! Just wanting to get an idea of a more basic entry to motorsport such as driving training days, track days etc.

Would love to have a club that wants to organise something, we got a great track here at morgan park now!! But even QLD raceway would be good.

MOCQ should form a motorsport group but they tried a year ago and had about 8 people put their hands up.

Bring on the mini driver training! (and yes, my hand is UP to volunteer)

If you just want track days with no wheel to wheel competition get into Paul Ruzic's Time Attack track days at QR.

Paul is a good mate of mine and started off by running track days at Warwick. Now he does about 7 QR days per year. Will be running Lakeside days once the circuit is back up & running.

Don't be put off by all of the big HP cars on the web page. Cars are run in groups of equivalent performance to reduce speed differences and overtaking.

Beam break type timing (not transponder) is provided.

The HRCC run all sorts of things and Bill Westerman, who is high up in the club, is a mini guy. Unfortunately, the Kilcoy race track project that was to be owned & run by the HRCC has fallen down because of issues with the land owner. Pity, great track layout and wouldn't have had the personality issues that are associated with trying to organise days at Warwick.

What I'd really like to do is run around with a few other minis. Do many go to these?

HRCC do a Triple T Day early each year, a Try, Train or Test day. Been run at QR in the past, can use this as a " try" day. Talk with Ken N about it and yes, I will be there in down town Warwick last weekend for last Sprint round. Looking forward to that Guinness 8) 8) . See you then.

Do they cater for modified Mini's or have a modified class??

I am so looking forward to Lakesdie oepning up again - perfect Mini track (and just 10 mins up the road)>

Mt Cotton is a daunting start. Last time I went cars were dropping off the track like crazy! Most other events aren't that nuts.

Both QR and Warwick track are owned/managed by "individuals" and it takes a patient and tactful man to organise track days. With access day/time, price, pit/tower access, ambulance, timing, marshalls/helpers and insurance all to be sorted it is a hell of a thing to run one. The Timeattack days are not at Warwick anymore due to a combination of the difficulty in dealing with the owner/manager and the need at Warwick to have multiple flag marshal points in radio communication because of sighting issues. QR can be marshalled from the tower because the whole track can be seen from there and the track has the traffic lights centrally controlled. This is a big deal for a day run by a small crew looking for the highest safety. Timeattack has a good working relationship with the QR manager now, and Paul is looking forward to working with him to run Lakeside days.
Lakeside will also need lots of marshalls with good radios and is a car eater of a circuit, nowhere near as safe as QR for the over-enthusiastic amateur... Fun tracks are often the most dangerous.

Club does cater for modified minis but not really a "modified" class just for minis. There is Nb and Nc as well regularity classes, just work out what you want to do. HRCC meetings are usually 3rd Monday night, see the website for the venue.
