hey guys im wondering if anybody use's a stick on rego plates just like the old works and general british cars.
is it legal to have a black and white one across the bonnet?

Illegal.
Must be reflective and made by your Transport company (RTA??)
Or you are VIC roads, arent you..

Have somebody make an enquiry for you , explain why and that it'll be on reflective material on a vertical surface . If they say no , try it anyway , at least then you can honestly say that you hadn't been told it was illegal by vic-roads .

I think you can still have the sticker type ones but the killer is that they must be "vertical" - I've copped a $110 + 3 demerit point fine for my front number plate not being vertical when it was leaning back about 15 degrees under the front bumper.

Safest way is to use normal plates plus the stick on one - then if you want to do a "classic" show just take off the real one. There are already a replica and a couple of real works cars registered in Victoria that I know of that do that.

PPQ (Queensland) told me I could make it out of vynil provided it was correct (Size wise)
