Post subject:  Picking up your own mini
So I was having a chat with a client and the conversation turns to minis. This guy's face lights up, and he tells me that when he was dating his wife whenever he'd find a tight spot he would nose it in, and then proceed to pick the car up from behind the rear wheel and bounce it into the spot.

He's a slim build, of the utmost integrity (so I believe what he is telling me is true), and he reckons he could life the car up by turning his back on it, squating, and then lift it with both hands behind his back.

Now without getting too precious or sensitive about picking up minis, has anybody else tried this?

Oh, he did say it helped to have an empty tank of petrol. 8)

I can do it with a moke easily.
A mini if i try hard.

As willy said , a moke with a rear bar is easy , not much to lift with on a mini though . It can be done but you're risking panel damage .

It's easy enough to bounce either...

bit of effort to lift a moke, i wouldn't risk lifting a mini though..

You can certainly lift a Moke from the back or either side. The front would be bigger ask, but is possible is theory. (Did it yesterday without the wheels on, cant walk today)

Frend's Dad did it to his Principal's Mini with some mates. They lifted it and put it infront of the School's front doors.

My brother has a story about some pain in the ass guy at work that drove a mini. so, troy and a few other guys picked up his mini and put it in by the loading dock, where there were those big bar things that are set in the ground to stop cars driving in... They also stop cars driving out.

I also got a story off of an old maths teacher, where by the principal of the school drove a mini. The schools buildings were fairly close together, and the principal used to park between them, nose in first. so one day the boys decided to pick the mini up and turn it around, so that the front and back ends were faced with brick walls... and the mini couldnt be turned around.

yeah i've done it to move it around in the garage or carport. never do it to park though, i'm not that bad a driver!

many times nosed it in and bounced or lifted the back in! Not that hard. Was a crappy mini though, dont know if i would try it with one you take care of :?

Its an old party trick - one person can lift one rear side of a mini easily. Two can lift the entire rear end and move it about.

The down side is that it does terrible damage to the flairs should they be fitted.

It can also leave quite notice dents and distortion is the rear quarter panels above the rear wheel by the way its gripped.

I dont belive the furphy's about people picking up and carry a whole mini around. Its just too heavy and not enough people can get a proper grip to pick it and move it.

Yes - I know I have heard the same stories since 1963 but its always someone who knows someone who knows someone who has. The exception to that is the same bloke we all know. The one whose brother had the mini with the factory fitted six cylinder motor.

I can pick up the rear of my Mini by myself the way that is described in the first post. I just the wheel on the side I'm lifting comes off the ground and the load is lightened on the opposite side enough that it will slide over if I lean on the car. And I am 6" and 160 lbs.
