Post subject:  Thread size/type on KAD Remote Quickshift!

Hi,

I have a KAD Quickshift for my remote change, I need a new Gear Knob, and I want one with a metal thread not the 'universal' plastic centre ones.

But, I need to know the thread size first. Couldn't find any nuts at home to fit.

Cheers

Pretty sure you'll find its a 7/16th fine. Not ansolutely sure about the 'fine' but I definitely use a 7/16th locknut on mine.

Cheers, Ian

I got a metal aluminium knob ages ago for my KAD quickshift, its rod change tho. It has several different thread sizes up inside. Mine fit without a drama.... I havnt seen many new knobs these days that r built like this, all have the stupid plastic collar........Universal fit style.

Thanks, I'll try a 7/16" one tonight. I have been told the threads are different from a rod change quickshift to a remote change one. Is your shift remote?

Cheers!

I had one like this too, but the metal thread part came loose from the knob, so it was just spinning around....

Had to get the hacksaw on it to get pliers on to the thread.

Just about to start the search for a good knob!    Any recommendations?

Try "LocTite 401". A super strength adhesive that wouldve kept the Titanic afloat. A bit pricey at $20 for the tiny bottle, but it works wonders. It should hold the threaded insert back properly.

Yeh, but the knob is now in about 6 pieces, so it isn't so much the thread spinning inside it that I'm worried about.....

Agree on the 401 tho', great stuff!

Nope, not 7/16", that is WAY too big. I tried a 5/16"UNC and it is bloody close, but just won't fit!

I have checked the thread and it is all clean and in Perfect Condition. Any other ideas?

(I have shot an email to KAD but no answer yet)

Just had an answer filter through from KAD:

Dear Matthew,

If it is a remote change gearstick, the thread is 5/16 UNC. If you are having difficulty getting a gearknob onto the tsick it is possible that there may be too great a build-up of chrome on the thread which wouold require a die of that size being run down the thread.

We dont make gearknobs aside from the one supplied with our later rod change stick but this is a different design and thread due to its application

Best regards,

Colin Woollard

Just in case anyone else needs to know!!
