Post subject: | How to properly remove clubby door card |
I'm currently taking apart my '71 Mini K as I'm planning on taking it down to bare metal for a restoration. I'm in the process of taking out the door cards and after removing the three screws that retain the door latch housing and removing the window crank, I can't seem to get the door card out. I don't want to damage anything, so I was wondering at this stage, what is the proper way to remove the door card? I see that the door handle mechanism has a rod that connects to the latch mechanism as does the door lock mechanism. Do both of these rods need to be disconnected before you can remove the door cards? |

Ok , threw me there for a bit , you're talking a mini K with the clubman doors (black flat pull back handle in a chrome surround rather than a door handle that looks similar to a window winder) aren't you . The interior door handle is surrounded by a black plastic trim that comes apart into two bits , with that removed the door card will fit over the door handle without needing to remove the handle from the rods . There are a couple of push in clips on the door card (not sure where from memory ) and once you have removed the window winder and have the door handle unscrewed , start gently prising the door card out from the bottom till you see where it's stuck with the clips , then put the flat of a large screwdriver behind the clip area and gently pop it out of the door . keep going till it's only held in by the top fold of the door and then ease it over the door handle . Also check if a previous owner has put screws into the door cards anywhere . |

Thanks! I see what you mean now regarding the door handle housing. It's in two pieces that come apart vertically. |

i start from the middle of the door with both hands, balloning out the center of the trim. as sports 850 said make sure all clips are prised out. |
