Hello,

As you may or may not know I am about to rip out Lillee's heart and replace it with a slight faster heart with 1275 instead of 1152 ccc.

So all you NSW people, tell me what the deal is to register it and get insurance legal bla bla. I have no idea. What does a blue slip involve? can any garage do a blue slip inspection? What forms do I have to fill at the RTA, tell me step by step and how much it will cost.

Thanks!

I did mine whilst converting over to Concessional Rego Scheme (Club plates) so didn't need a blue slip but...

Yes willy - we can run webers, delllortos or SU's
Not all garages are licenced to do blue slips (mostly due to the extra cost they have to bear to be licensed and pre-purchase the books). The RTA used to have a link on their website and a helpline as to where to find blueslip garages.

Blue slip really isn't anything more than a pink slip with regard to testing or inspecting the vehicle EXCEPT that they verify the VIN or chassis number and engine number to ensure they aren't on the stolen or writeoff register and are suitable for the type of vehicle being presented - a 1275 A series engine on a mini (with disc brakes) will be OK but a rotary engine would require an engineers report to be presented for example. Some garages inspect suspension, brakes, seatbelts etc more rigourously on a blue slip than a pink one.

If your car is roadworthy, and you've done a REVS check on the engine (before you built it  ) you should be OK.

For the insurer, I just rang them up and changed the details over the phone (have done this with both Shannons and NRMA Classic previously) with no problems.

that problem is because the big RTA book has a typo, that lists Mini 1275 as 1273cc.
I pointed it out and showed my rego for Ha-ha, which says 1275...

Barney was registered as 998, and is now legal 1275, no problem.
They didn't even check it has discs, which it does. I had to point it out.

Go see Brad's mate....

So what happens if its rego'd in NSW but the engine number doesn't match the rego?? Is it jsut a matter of swappiong it with a blue slip. That is if the capacity is the same and type as what t was manufacture for? aka 1275 replaced with another 1275?

Coz i was thinking of transplating my engine from my LS into the new mini.

 :) :o

Yes just go to a blueslip place, it's a painless process, takes 5 mins.
They will just check the VIN or body number of the car and the engine number.
You will need to prove it's yours, either receipt, old rego papers, etc.

When you change a motor in NSW you need to show a receipt for the new motor.

Added to what everyone else has already said

Make sure you tell the blue slip inspector that the mini with the big bore motor has disc brakes and that he notates that. Most of them do not know that a big bore must have disc brakes.

The reason is that it will pop up on the RTA computer and you will have to trot back to the Blue slip inspector's for him to bend down and say yes it has disc brakes anmd notate that on the blue slip.

about $49 to $60.
You just need a receipt for the block, not the rebuild....
or if it IS yours, from another of your cars and has been in the shed for a zillion years (like my S motor) write them a letter explaining this. That's all I needed 12 years ago.
