Post subject: | Mini - Economic Write off :0( |
Just found out that the insurance company are offering me $1,100 payout and I get to keep the car. I paid $2,000 for it 18 months ago ![]() I want to get more if I can, but the insurance company want evidence of similar cars sold - anyone sold anything similar recently? - 76 Clubby mostly stock, fair bodywork. On the upside, I have a bodyshell in the shed (Aussie's old one) that I was going to turn into a trailer that I can cut out the bits I need to repair it. So, I hope to get it back fairly cheaply. ![]() ![]() Will I have to jump through any hoops re registration, i.e. will I have to get it inspected? It is only an economic write-off. Any advice much appreciated. Cheers all Rick |

man, take the cash and repair it yourself. That's a VERY easy repair! |

mate, sounds like you got a good deal out of that. The repair is easy, and if you do it yourself you will prob make some money out of it, and get a welder. Ryan |

Dont rush in and take the first ammount they offer you - regardless of whether you "can repair it yourself" or not (and the boot looks like its a throw away). The offer probably wont come off the table just like that so try and get more money out of them if you can. |

I wouldnt accept it. I would ask for market price less scrap value ($100). I have had the same situation. Dont let the fact that you can fix it cloud your negotiation. In your mind its a rightoff until they give you the cheque. If they ask why you want to keep say you want to donate it to a TAFE to learn on and that you will have no further use for it. |

I think $1100 plus the car is a fair deal. Buy a replacement bootlid and get out the panel beating tools. I think you'll find you might benefit out of the transaction. |

Nah, that'll buff out. Seriously, get a panelbeater to have a good look at how much they can pull that back panel back. If the floor's pretty straight, then you shouldn't need to replace the whole back panel. Having said that, I've done a welding course and have my own mig welder and did a similar exercise. But my floor needed bits cut out and replaced so it was more involved - if you can keep the back panel, there's a whole swag of work you don't need to do. ![]() |

i dunno, but don't throw away the bootlid, repair it (unlikely), or just shove it in a pile of sare parts, or give it to me. |

Put the pressure on the insurance company. You are the innocent victim in this. Tell them that you want you car repaired to the condition it was in before the other car hit it. They are trying to get out of it cheap. You paid $2000 for it 18 months ago and they offer $1100 as market value. The market value is obviously $2000. You could also put some pressure on KIA as well. ![]() |
