No, the new ones are crap! in fact any of the ones cept for the old racing ones from the 60's aren't so good. Ask me why if you care to hear what GR thinks... |

ok, i didn't want to hijack your thread. The newer type pickups have only a 90* cut in the pipe with mesh over it. The older type pickups had the hole cut at an angle to allow for more pickup area. Also the newer pickups with it's tiny mesh area cloggs up very quickly. Graham doesn't like the newer pickups and for road cars prefers to use the leyland standard pickup with it's big mesh area. He says if you are going fast enough on a road car to starve the pickup of oil then 1) you haven't got enough oil, fill it to full mark and 2) you're probably breaking some law! On that note, I have a newer type pickup in my gearbox and if you religiously change your oil and rebuild if there is a major blowup (ie. chunky metal pieces) then you should be fine. There was talk of other type of minispares pickups which had 2 holes apparently, no idea if they still sell these or not but these are a bad idea as the second hole can suck up air on fast right handers. That's all... ![]() |
