I had an old gas strut laying around so decided to fit it to the LS bonnet.. After a few goes, finally have it working...

Damn fine idea there smokie!! Love ya work!

Also like the insulation on the inside of your bonnet. Is that the one you can buy on ePay or did you "custom" make that too??

Bought the insulation from Autobarn BC but comes in a roll and you have to cut and fit it yourself. You can get it like the one I have or a heat resistant one that I used on the firewall inside the engine bay..

I also used the standard one in the boot as well...

if your no longer useing your old bonnet strut and attachement points, i'll take them off your hands

nice work aswell, it doesn't push it up to high though does it, how are the hinges on the edge? and the corners of the bonnet on the panels?

I will hang onto the old strut at the moment andbat, just in case I decide to change things later..

With the gas strut, it opens the bonnet up a lot wider but no problems with the hinges or corners and the bonnet just clears the wiper arms.. Also keeps ones head from getting speared with the bonnet catch.. :?

yeah, i don't have a mini strut, mine hangs lower than it should, i almost have a bald spot from that spike.

Thanks.

careful with that thing, had the exact same thing and it warped the bonnet in the volvo, now the bonnet is hard to close,

I removed and modified the original bracket until it fitted then as seen in the pic, bolted it to the engine stabilisation bar.. Had to get a longer bolt because of the spacer..

Not overly pretty for the top but it works ok...

Here's another design, using a fairly small strut on each hinge..

Top mount

End result, non-intrusive
