Post subject:  90's minis?

im currently looking for a mini to buy and this one dealer imports the minis from japan, does them up and sells them. they are all 1989-1999 models. these models interest me as im not a huge car nut, just a mini nut and the newer ones would require less work which is good as im not very mechanically literate when it comes to cars. would someone please give me some basic imformation on the newer minis (mid 90's or there abouts) as i get confused with all the different models and years.

First thing's first.....are the current import laws for post '89 cars still 'no go'?

Anyway, all minis after 91 (I think) were all 1.3 injection powered, and the post 97 cars
had airbags. The Jap spec cars were usually air conditioned and had auto transmissions.

There were two basic models, a Mayfair and a Cooper, the cooper had a slightly
more powerful engine (on paper, but still similar torque).

The 'newer' minis aren't service free, they still have all the grease points and
a lot of the weak spots of their 60s counterparts, with the complexity of parts
availability.

Hope this helps. :D

dont matter how old or new a mini is you will need some mechanical idea
unless you buy a uber wagon (bmw mini) they all use the same basic motor from 59 till 2000 just the later ones got more technical ie fuel injection airco and alike thet you would find on any modern car it helps if you tell us what state you are other than a state of confusion :)
then one of us freindly mini owners could help you along or point you in the correct direction
