Hi Guys,

I need help. My race mini is in at the panel beaters getting prepared for a bare metal 2pac re-spray.

But I can't decide which colour I want. I've had a white one with a red roof, and this one is red with a white roof.

The car will be used for classic rally events, so I want to stick with a traditional colour. The car is a Mk1 round nose.

I want something that looks really wow - while still maintaining a period type feel. I've really got no idea what I want. If anyone has some ideas and / or pictures of some really nice race cars I'd love to see them.

I want it to be a real head turner. Please help as the panel beater will be ready to spray in a couple of weeks, I don't want to hold him up with colour choice!...

jacks.

anything but british racing green, red and white... it's hard to find a classic race car in anything other than those colours

:D

I reckon this colour (Baltic Blue) looks teriffic - another WOW blue is HDT formula blue, my blue S was that colour and really looked excellent - stood out, but very classic too - can't access a picture atm tho - sorry

Mate I think you might be onto something here. Can anyone post some good pictures of Vemillion Red cars? I've searched the net and all I can find is the tiny picture on minicolours.co.uk site which isn't very good.

I like this idea.

Okay I found a couple of sites for old leyland colour samples (both for mg's).

http://www.teglerizer.com/mgcolors/index.html
http://www.mgb-stuff.org.uk/paint.htm

also this is the only one I could find on the web, not a good pic :? but shows the colour :)

mmmm surf blue...nice

or you could be really different, and go for a traditional colour, tartin red, or that orange, or olive green or smoke grey, with composary white roof, and then add a twist, throw some house of kolor glitter flakes in with the clear, you would get this normal look then a bright sparkle in certian lights.

But which Castrol Green Kev, there have a few different shades over the years, just been through this exercise with a Brisbane car rebuilt as a replica of 1966 winner. Matt McGrath's mini (seen in TME) is Castrol Green but is quite light shade compared to the older colours.

Tweed grey and a black roof, or old english white roof. respectable old school pastel colors i think are cool for mini's.

i think shades of grey are the best. maybe a dark grey with a light grey roof. surf blue with snowberry white roof is amazing too. not a fan of reds as they are too common. almont green and saxon green roof has t one of the best period colour combinations around.

You need to decide if you're going for a "works replica" and if so, which country (English or Aussie), or if you want something to just look period.

The above suggestion is great (particularly with the white roof) but I think was mainly used on the smaller capacity cars rather than the Cooper S's, but I also like Surf Blue, Baltic Blue and speedwell blue.

Maybe check out some of the historic rally coverage in the pommy classic car and mini mags for some inspiration.
