Post subject: | Mini Gearbox identification |
I have this engine out of this strange mini. It seems to have been built at the time the mini deluxe was being sold, but the mini doesn't have hydrolastic suspension or remote gear change, it has a puddle stick. I was wondering if i could mount a remote gear change to the gear box. The puddle stick housing on the back of the gearbox doesn't look like a regular 850 puddle stick. (the engine is a 1098). I've been lead to believe that this gearbox has been setup the same way a moke gear box of the same vintage would of be setup. I have two pictures. ![]() ![]() Can a remote housing be mounted to this type of gearbox? |

Yes, that's the `pov pack' Clubby setup. With a few odd bits changed, and a tunnel mount bracket, you can bolt the Mini Deluxe/Mini K/Cooper S remote on. ![]() |

Tunnel mount bracket is that just the little rubber mount ? I'm not expert on all the pov pack linkage, but I know you will need- 1. the shift shaft that goes up thru the diff housing, 2. the remote extension housing, with its linkage & gear lever, 3. the Deluxe/Mini K type bell crank that sits on that cross shaft in your diff housing- if it's different to yours. re the tunnel mount, there's a BIG round rubber mount bolts to back of remote, and also a metal bracket that bolts into the tunnel, this has 2 bolts in front of crossmember and 1 behind, near handbrake bracket. |
