Post subject: | Vibrations from Exhaust Pipe |
Hi I started the mini today after 2 weeks and there's this loud vibration coming right under the gear stick or on the left side of it (passenger side) to me its like the exhaust pipe under the gear stick is vibrating and maybe fouling the passenger floor? I looked under and it doesnt look like like its moving that much at all. What I dont understand is that everything was fine 2 weeks ago and the mini is just sitting there and wasnt moved at all. I drove the mini and the noise/vibration goes louder when I take my foot off the gas pedal or accelerating. |

Just as a quick idea , check to see if a bolt , nut or anything else forgotten in the engine bay has fallen and gotten stuck between the exhaust and the body or gear linkage , maybe even a stone from the road perhaps ? |

I only checked the U bolt under and that's fine, its quite hard to see the exhaust manifold side not much room there I'll have a look again... |

Also check to see if any part of the gear linkage (whichever type) or mounts have broken off and are hitting the exhaust . |

I checked that and everything seems fine, I've got rod change and nothing is fouling the exhaust but I didnt put my hands in between the exhaust pipe (when cold) maybe something is in between |

mine was doing this, because the exhuast/stractors u bolt was rubbing the gbox. ( i have no gearbox exhaust mount) The vibrations came randomly, and then went radomly away. Much like my fanbelt squeal, which is unfortunantly still with me! ARGH |

Id also confirm that all ur engine steadys are in good condition and tight. Stop the engine rocking around which could cause the linkage to foul on the exhaust? |

I just noticed today that the rear mounting bracket the 2nd one from the muffler has broken off the pipe so making the pipe sag a bit and hitting my cross re-inforcement bar under the car. So I need to take it to an exhaust shop to get it welded or some good samaritan in brisbane could weld this for me in exchange of a good cold carton of beer ![]() |
