Petrol prices - worth thinking about! Apparently we are going to hit close to $1.35 a litre over the next few months. If this happens the prices will flow on down to the price of every thing we buy! Want petrol prices to come down? We need to take some intelligent, united action. Philip Hollsworth, offered this good idea. This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the "don't buy petrol on a certain"day" campaign that was going around last April or May! The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to "hurt ourselves" by refusing to buy petrol. It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them. BUT, whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can really work. Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to think that the cost of a litre is CHEAP at .89 / .95 cents, we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the marketplace not sellers. With the price of petrol going up more each day, we consumers need to take action. The only way we are going to see the price of petrol come down is if we hit someone in the pocket by not purchasing their Petrol! And we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves. Here's the idea: For the rest of this year, DON'T purchase ANY petrol from the two biggest oil companies (which now are: BP and Mobil). If they are not selling any petrol, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit. But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of BP and Mobil petrol buyers. It's really simple to do!! Now, don't wimp out on me at this point...keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people!! I am sending this note to a lot of people. If each of you send it to at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300)...and those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000).... and so on, by the time the message reaches the sixth generation of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers! Again, all you have to do is send this to 10 people. That's all. (and not buy at BP and Mobil) How long would all that take? If each of us sends this email out to ten more people within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within the next 8 days!!! I'll bet you didn't think you and I had that much potential, did you! Acting together we can make a difference. If this makes sense to you, please pass this message on. PLEASE HOLD OUT UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE 80 cents a LITRE RANGE. It's easy to make this happen. Just forward this email, and buy your petrol at Shell, Caltex, Ampol or any other outlet and drive past BP and MOBIL Stations. |

i hate to punch holes in the best of intentioned theories, but ... - it IS a sellers market, as oil is a limited resource. what's more, we cannot produce/refine petrol by ourselves. we need the oil companies, like it or not. - not buying from a certain petrol chain etc has been around for years, and a lot of the time is started by a mole from the opposition. - even if you ignore all of that and buy from a smaller, independent chain, they still buy their petrol from the big oil companies. there are only a few major suppliers, and they control the market. if we stop buying from their retail arm, that's fine - they'll just put the wholesale price of oil up. independent operators are not able to absorb price fluctuations like a large oil company can, so any rise in the wholesale price will be reflected directly to the consumer (not that it isnt with the big companies, but if they want to compete, they have a lot more headroom to be flexible on price). i hope this reply doesn't come across as nasty, because it isn't meant to be. it's just that these campaigns are largely self-defeating, and we're all much better off supporting organisations that are researching alternatives to oil/petrol - sustainable, renewable sources of energy. |

Huh? Shell and BP are completely seperate companies. I work for BP, and there is a lot of bad feeling BP vs Shell - kinda like Liberal vs Labor! What nermil is saying is true. These chain mails have been around for years. (Except the last one I saw was BP and Shell.) Trying to force the price down locally will not have any affect on OPEC as our market is way too small in Oz. The USA will happily buy the extra oil if Aus doesn't! |

i can tell you now that due to the inelasticity of demand for fuel, there is little/no chance that this will work.......and unless the retail price of fuel rises by some drastic amount in a short space of time people will continue to buy at the same rate they currently are. While it would be nice for this boycott theory to work it wont, for a number of reasons. The best thing to do to keep your fuel bill down is to drive a mini!! ![]() ![]() ps. I pulled into the petrol station the other day to fill up and there was a guy filling up his 4WD on the other side of the pump. I filled up with my $20 worth of fuel, went inside, waited in line then paid with my card. I got back to my car and the guy was still filling up....i got talking with him and it turns out 1 tank will last him about 1 week......while mine will last me about 2 weeks ![]() |

I don't expect to effect the world market, however we can have an effect locally. A friend of mine was a chemical engineer for the Shell refinary in Geelong. He said that the production in the refinary is a continuous process 24/7 that can not readily be stopped (or rather very expensive to do so) and they only have 3 days of production in storage capacity and rely on it constantly moving out to keep the buffer functioning. The price flucuations you see at the pump are more to do with controlling the flow through the refinary than anything else. Hold the flow up for any length of time and they will drop prices to move the back log. |

loop until rs.eof = true jeepers, what kind of geek are you! you should know that rs.eof returns true, so you don't need to compare it with true, you're doing an extra comparison there that's just not needed! oh jeesus christ, I can't believe I just posted that ![]() |
