Hi,

Just had the RC40 twin box put on the mini, and while it was on the hoist I had a good look under there (as you do).

I noticed there was a leak from the inlet to the SU Fuel pump, which was brand new. I don't feel like messing with it too much until I have an idea of what to look for. Any ideas what this could be? (the hose is new and secure, it appears to be from the base of the inlet piece where it attaches to the body.)

my new one leaked after it had been sitting for a while - the rubber must shrink a bit, and then not expand when it gets fueled up again.... but that mightn't be your situation

anyway, there's a ring that is screwed on over the inlet and outlet tubes, it holds them in, all I did was take that off, take the inlet and outlet tubes off, flip their rubbers over and put the ring back on and do it up tight.... been like that just over 2 years now

Ecxcellent, I'll try it, now if only I hadn't just filled the fuel tank!

Maybe I should drive it a bit, then I'll have less fuel to drain!

vice grips are your friend just have a jar ready and don't lie right under it like I did the other week and got a nice eyeful of fuel.... my eye wouldn't focus the next day for some reason

EDIT: take the fuel pump out of the car so you can do it on the bench.... would be worth cleaning the points too while it's out

If interested there is a nice little electronic mod you can do to stop the points arcing and virtually stop them wearing out. You need to be handy with a soldering iron and know the difference between a transistor, a diode and a resistor

Good idea, no need to clean the points though, it is electronic triggering!

Not that it related to this topic jsut this poast.... I once used a faulty bauser and had my whole body and face drenched in fuel.... I couldn't see properl;y for a week or so I feel your pain. It bloody hurts like billio. Anyways good luck sorting it out Mat68

I had a similar problem but what i found was that one of the little hoses (about 2" long) had the hose clamp done up on it too tight and just from vibrations from the engine over a few months it started to cut through the pipe.

Put that one on the list as well. Hope you find what's wrong soon cause leakin fuel is dangerous, don't be fooled even though it smells good.
