Post subject:  Old Cone Problem..

I am putting in new cones on the front of the LS. I have started on the left hand side and so far I have been able to drop everything down, seperate the old cone from the trumpet but I just can't get the old cone to come out of the frame.. I can turn it around, get it sideways but it just wont come out.

Do I need to remove the upper suspension arm to get the old cone out???

It is already loose gafmo but it just wont come out past the upper suspension arm so maybe I will just have to take that off and be done with it.. Probably make it easier to put the new one back in anyway..

The workshop manual. The thing that a mechanic reads before working on a car.

If you are going to work on your car you really need a manual.

I had to take the top arm out to do that job recently. Very Very happy to have a few ratcheting ring spanners to undo the small bolts on the keeper plate.

You have to hold you tongue just right to get the pivot pin out & back in again.

Actually Morris 1100 I do have the Gregory's No2 book so I dug it out and looked and it does say to remove the upper suspension arm, so I should have read instead of asked... :?

Thanks for the advice Mokesta. I also work on computers so I know exactly how to and where to put ones tongue...

You can probably get the old one out easy-ish if you bash it from the top with a looong screw driver or something...Getting a NEW cone back in will be very hard without taking the top arm out.[/img]

All done. New cones fitted and working well.

Took me a while to do the left hand side one but breezed throught the other side without any real problems, the only thing that held me up was getting the bloody brakeline nipple to start, get the top one in, couldn't start the bottom one or visa versa but after much choice words and a bit of luck, I finally got it fitted.

The car does sit a fair bit higher but that doesn't worry me because now the exhaust doesn't scrape on the driveway..
