Post subject:  Removing wheel studs

Hi all

What is the best way to remove the wheel studs from a mini? Should I just give them a bash or is there a tool to push them out?

Also, can it be done with the hubs still on the car?

Cheers
Stu

you CAN remove short wheel studs while on the car. but it is hard to refit them while still on the car. if you are not using the studs again just knock them out with the BFH , if u are using ythem again, take the hubs off the car and press them out with a hydraulic bench press.

if you're using them again, put nuts on them so that the nut is flush with the end of the thread, then hit them with the BFH

 Just knock them out with a BFH but if you want to use them again use a soft face BFH. To replace them insert them into the hub then put the wheel nut on and tighten up the nut. This will pull the stud into the hub. If you can't pull it all the way into the hub because you run out of thread take the nut off and either put some washers under the nut or a simpler way is to put the wheel on and tighten up the nut with the wheel in place and then take the wheel off and check that the stud is seated properly. If you have spacer drums you may have to remove the hubs to remove and replace the longer studs. On Cooper 'S' cars the stud is pressed into the disc flange not the hub.

Hope this helps

Thanks for that.

Was intending doing a quick swap of some steel Rostyle's from a Clubman S onto a roundnose. It is turning out to be more than a quick swap though
