Just knock them out with a BFH but if you want to use them again use a soft face BFH. To replace them insert them into the hub then put the wheel nut on and tighten up the nut. This will pull the stud into the hub. If you can't pull it all the way into the hub because you run out of thread take the nut off and either put some washers under the nut or a simpler way is to put the wheel on and tighten up the nut with the wheel in place and then take the wheel off and check that the stud is seated properly. If you have spacer drums you may have to remove the hubs to remove and replace the longer studs. On Cooper 'S' cars the stud is pressed into the disc flange not the hub.
