Hi All, is white/blue smoke bad? Possible engine rebuild? What causes this ? The motor has been sitting idle for a while. It didn't smoke when first started however after it warmed up it started to produce a light white/blue smoke whichs gets worse when the engines rev's. Cheers Tim |

white/blue smoke is bad. would appear to be rings... and a rebuild. But wait for more experienced advice. |

Sounds like the rings. Do a compression test. The rings are gone on mine and it doesn't smoke when you first start her up but leave it idling for a few minutes then rev it and you know all about it ![]() If the smoke is more white than blue then I'd also check the head gasket it might be using water. |

Could be rings, could be valve stem seals. To find out which is which, run the engine about 3000 revs for 15 to 20 seconds, if there is constant blue smoke, it will most likely be rings, if there is no smoke while you are doing this give it a couple of pumps with the accelerator and then if you have smoke, its the valve stem seals. Compression test is the way to go to get accurate diagnosis, this is just a general idea of what you may be up for. |
