Post subject:  Mini Seat Brackets for MX5
Hi

I went to metal fabricators/welders yesterday to get a quote for some brackets for the MX5 seats and I got quoted $250 for 8 pcs of simple brackets like on this pics below except 5mm thick and not alloys like the back ones

I'm going to see Team Jetspeed on Saturday to get a quote as they do seat conversion to see the price comparison of them doing it all up or me getting brackets and installing it myself.

$250 is a bit expensive right? or am I just being tight?
I can see this seat conversion is going to empty my pocket as I have to get it engineered/mod plated :roll: [/img]

They are very similar to the brackets my father made for my seats. Didnt cost him anywhere near 250bucks..seems like a lot to me

I think even if you are not mechanically inclined you could still get the materials and some tools and do it cheaper than that. Even if it takes you a couple attempts to get it right.

Razor, I can make you a pair for the low cost of $245.00 for the lot.

What is the fabricator going to make them out of..Gold??? I just made some up for my LS when I fitted the Charade seats and I guess if I was counting my hours and material, the cost may have been $100.00 max and my back brackets were made not just cut out of a section of channel..

Thats why I was so shocked!
they are very basic brackets
you just need to drill an extra hole for the rear mounting

I thought $250 is for someone to install it for me with
mod plated on it!!!

Smokie thanks for the $5 discount

if I buy my own tools its gonna end up real expensive as well

a good mig will set me at least $500
the $100 ones from bunnings are crap. plus cutting tool for the metals
it all adds up thats why I decided to get a quote from a shop

I would recommend that anybody buy a welder if they don't have one. I bought my MIG a few years ago to put a panel into a previous car that I owned. I took the car to a bodyshop and got a quote, I thought it was rather high. Then I figured for the same price I could buy a welder and a fender and do it myself, and I could sell the welder after I was done. However, once I had the welder, I discovered so many more uses for it. I started making everything even tools once in a while. I have built many exhaust systems with it. The welder changed my life. It was some of the best money I have ever spent, the thing paid for it self many times over. But I must warm you as well it's like a drug, it's addictive and it may lead to more serious drugs. I was so addicted that I recently moved up to a Miller Synchrowave 200 TIG welder and a Hypertherm Powermax 380 plasma cutter. Now I am really hooked and my life has changed forever.

TurboOrangie, I feel soooo sorry for you now... :?

It's like anything tho, if you do it as a hobby it's fun but when you do something all the time for a living a lot of times the last thing you want to do is go out and weld things for for yourself... But I wish I had a MIG instead of my little stick welder....

Not to be rude, but those seat mounts are shocking. I would not go mounting seats like that. No engineer will ever pass that.

We fit aftermarket seats here at work all the time, I'll be sure to get some photos up of the base frame in our Triton later....

the rear mount is shocking as the bracket is not strong enough its made up of alloy or something...
and the front one is too thin

I made my front brackets out of 5mm plate and added a gusset under the bend...
