7 Years Bad Luck!!!! I've just had a traumatic experience attempting to dismantle my mirrors in order to stick something behind them to stop them rattling all the time. Unfortunately I couldn't figure out if they were supposed to be dismantle-able and if they were how to do it. I now have one broken mirror still firmly stuck in the bloody frame. Its a 1990 Rover so don't know how different it is to the local ones. So now I have to a) Figure out if i can still dismantle and re-assemble the mirror unit b) if I can - Find a replacement mirror glass of the right shape Does anyone know if there is a trick to getting the glass out without breaking it? And also if I will be able to find the right shape glass at a normal car parts place? (I was going to try AutoOne & AutoBarn in Chatswood tomorrow) Cheers, only 6 years and 364 days of bad luck left. |

If you are clever you can cut a bigger mirror down to size. (I did this to an XF Falcon once) If you are not that clever you can take the mirror to a glass place and they should be able to cut it to the right shape and size. Ring around and you should be able to find someone. |

I had a wheel fall off at speed (a tyre place stripped the threads off the wheel studs with a rattle gun - barely managed to save myslef and the car, though really I reckon it was just luck coz I was just a passenger as soon as the wheel came off). I surprisingly didn't crap myself as I saw the front left wheel come off at 60 kmh fly up and then take my left side mirror off and bounce to the sidewalk (no one was hit thankfuly). The mirror was shattered and it was bloody expesive to get a propper automotive mirror surface made for it so just buy a second had mirror unit from ebay UK (under 5 pounds) - the only thing that holds the mirrir inside its housing is the plastic surround - take it out and replace the mirrors.
