Are you alowed to have a custom exhaust on a mini with the exhaust pipes exiting in front of the rear wheel?

In a word no, any side exiting exhaust ads a risk of carbon monoxide getting into the passenger compartment & causing the driver to black out.

Would be acceptable only if the rear windows were made non-opening.
Also exhaust has to be angled (see the National Code of Practice)

Last I knew , in NSW it had to be 450mm behind the last opening window or door , I've wonderred before about putting lakes pipes from each side of some LCB's on a van (I know , mostly wank value but I think it'd look good ) but haven't tried it . The only thing is the outlet would bein front of the rear opening doors but I can't see that being a problem as the exhaust is normally either just behind or just in front of the doors anyway , nowhere near the 450mm required for a side exhaust . The biggest problem would be the reduced ground clearance from the pipes going under the side rather than all the way to the rear . Speedbumps (or Judder Bars for our NZ contingent) could be a problem ....

Just check it with an engineer first , especially with a sunroof as they may class it as a windoe and the exhaust will have to be the required distance behind it's rearmost opening edge .
