Hi guys,

Opinions please - got an 1330 cc a-series which i'm rebuilding, stage 2 head, weber 45 (6.5 manifold) currently got a nice (unknown) cam which pull from 3k - 7k, but going to add 1.5 roller rockers. Also gonna add an u/light flywheel. Purpose is racing, but with low end torque also. May be driven on roads to/from events from time to time - for hillclimbs and circuit racing, therefore can't go a pure race camshaft.

If someone is going to recommend that G.R. RE13 cam, can they post full specs on it??? Would love something that pulls from 3k with roller rockers installed.

Also opinions of pin drive vs. spyder drive would be appreciated.

If anyone's got experience (not just heresay!!!) on 1.5 roller rockers, comments would be much appreciated (problems, cam selection, considerations). I have had people who swear by them, to people who swear at them :)

Cheers.

Hi There,

I just built a 1330 based on the RE13 cam and can vouch for the driveability and power out of it. But I am building it for pure road so the aim is torque down low and all the way through the rev range.

http://www.ausmini.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=21438

I plan to put in one of graham's 5.5 inch intakes for the 45 Dellorto (same as your weber) and anticipate 120hp total (currently 113hp @ 6500).

Cam: if you are racing and plan to rev her past 7000 then put in an RE282 that graham grinds, but I am not sure if he sells it to the public or not as he only puts them into engines he builds himself. Give him a call. The 282 will require more revs, say about 3500 is when it starts to ride the cam all the way to 8000rpm if you dare, but there is aparently 10hp difference between the cams.

Roller Rockers: no different to forged rockers IMO so long as the rockers are evenly matched unlike the old S ones which were shocking sometimes. I run forged Toyota converted 1.5 rockers in mine now. If you plan to go a big cam then 1.5 ratio should be the right ones to use. If you have access to a engie dyno then I suggest you try the 1.3's and 1.5's and see how you go. The 1.3's will have better torque low end and all the way through the rev range with top end sacrifice.

If your head is only stage 2 then 1.3's may be worth a try. The head i have is totally ported and build to run on 1.5's so it maybe give you slightly different results. No I am not going to bother trying 1.3's anymore  Maybe we'll see 8)

I ran 1.5 forged rockers (1.58:1) with an RE13 cam in the 1310 I had last year. Roller rockers would run the same.
With a 45 Dellorto and 38mm chokes, Redline 3005 ported manifold it pulled from 2500-7500.
Head was well ported with 35.6/31mm valves, C/R was 10.4:1.

I now run an RE282 cam with the same rockers, and motor is bored out to 1360.
It will take full throttle (38mm chokes in) from 3000 up.
Once on cam it gives more power than the RE13.
Not sure if for sale yet, Graham has only done a couple & is still playing with the profile.

If you use it mainly in traffic an RE13 is better.
I can muff the starts in this thing with the 282 if I don't give it a footful of revs...

RE13 is around 274* duration, .290" lift at cam lobe.
There are 3 versions- smallbore, bigbore, and turbo.

Thanks guys. Seems GR is the point of authority (or is he paying you guys???) hehe. I'll give him a call and see what he says. I plan on getting some head work done so hopefully it'll be a stage 3+ when it's finished, and I don't plan to drive it in traffic =)

I have a 1430cc with 40mm Weber, 1.5 rockers, and I'm running a Kent Cams MD 290 (power band 3500-8250, 285 degree duration) and boy howdy is it ever sweet.

Jonathan - you get enough fuel with a 40mm? Has it ever been dyno'd? Just curious, not doubting.

Budget price - I think it is about $100-120 to grind your cam to RE13 specs plus postage based on experience early last year..

So Chong you've decided to cut into Lillee's bulkhead after all?
