Guys the harmonic balancer is supposed to have a lock wasker tack welded to it, my lock washer is not tack welded on (infact its just stuck to the bolt) whats the risk in running the crank pulley without a lock washer? |

No tack weld involved. This needs to be tightened properly otherwise you will have serious problems on your hands. Depending on the type of Balancer you have, you can use good grade Locktite on the bolt, with EVERYTHING else right, then torqued up to 70 ft lbs. Steve |

the lock washer is an independant part, not joined to any part of the motor, the lock waser has a keyway cut into it ahich lines up with the key on the end of the crank. just do up the bolt then flatten it over the head, but please fit one. |

No- the stock crank lock washer is bent down to sit in a groove in the balancer, then you bend the other side up onto the bolt. The key is in the back half of the balancer- it's the oil slinger that has a keyway slot and goes over the key, not the lock washer. ![]() I'm with Steve- most racers don't use the lock washer now, just put Loctite 262 on the thread and torque it up. A bit of Loctite on the nose of the crank and in the keyway, before you fit the balancer, doesn't hurt, either. ![]() <edited> for clarity. |

mount your radiator on the inner guard and fit a electric fan under the wheel arch - works a treat on my van, and I can remove the HB without a single grazed knuckle ![]() |
