Post subject:  Gemini starter, click but no go, well occasionally only
Ok without entering into a debate of which stater is better i have a problem with my gemini starter. Occassionally when I go to start the motor i get a click of the solenoid but no go. After a few clicks it will then start to work agin until next time.

I had the RACV out a few weeks back and they told me that my alterator wasn't putting out. I have now upgraded to a Lucas 16acr, 43 amps. So i'm definitly getting enough power.

My battery is good, plenty big enough. So its not that. Any Ideas. do you think the per engaged starter is sticking??

Any ideas.

Batteries develope a memory over time ang if yours was used for a while in a semi flat condition that maybe why it will not charge enough to turn the car over, take it to a battery place and get them to put a load tester on it and if you are lucky and that is the problem you may be able to get them to charge it with a big charger and it may fix it.

It will be a battery or connection problem and your problem may have been this all along,
now about that Lucas starter you took out that only lasted 40 years :lol:

cheers. i'll give it a go. BTW i still have the origonal to put back if i so desire. but gererally the gemini one works fine. Much faster too. But enough of that. Anyone else got any thoughts on my problem.

Had same problem with excel. Turn key, hear a click, no go for a few attampts.
New battery and was good as gold. :D

Either a buggered solenoid, or a dud battery. Grab a new battery from someone (girlfriend's car, mum's car), if this fixes it, buy a new battery, if it doesn't get a new solenoid!

No, if it works, just put the dead battery back into the mums/sisters car and make it their problem! :D

Harley you are my kind of guy, pratical yet vendictive!! I like your style.
You guys don't know my finace. If i was seen anywhere near her maxima with a spanner shed be packing her bags.

I have put my battery on charge as i only just fit the new alternator and hopefully this does the trick. While the battery is on charge i have just pulled out dismantled and cleaned the starterand actuator actuator and checked the tightness of all the conections.

If your battrery has dropped a cell or two, the charger will do diddly squat.

Buy a battery tester, uses a squeeze bulb to suck up the electrolyte fom one cell at a time, with a weighted float in it. If any cells read bad, when the others are all good, then your battery is cactus.

Cost about $4 from supercrap, near the batteries.

ok i have gotten an electrolyt tester from supercrap. All cells were the same at the godd end of ther bad scale. If that makes sence. Ihave toped up with battery fluid and put back on charge. we will see if it makes any difference.
