checked, even the nrma guy checked it.
he reckon i should run a big lead wire from the +alternator to the +salenoid to recharge it, do you think it will work?

There is a wire there already.
Probably:
1. the brushes in the alternator are worn out, that made the light stay on.
2. The bulb is now blown, so no worky now.

Note if the bulb is blown the alternator will not charge- power feeds through it to the field circuit via the brushes, to initiate charging.

Brushes are real easy to change on most Lucas alternators (the ones with the plastic cover on the back). Cheap too. See your local auto electrician.

OFF TOPIC (slightly) : Re: jump-starting.

Apparently my Mini is 'Negative earth'. Now, i understand what that means but is that the standard for all cars or different? If it's different is there a different jump-start procedure i need to know of just in case?

I don't see why it should be an issue, just that when i tell someone it's "Negative earth" they go "Oh!" in a disturbingly confused way. :?

Basically 100% of cars these days are neg earth. If u were to jump start a pos earth car, u would simply reverse the polarity of the jumper cables on the car being jumped.

Aint nothing wrong with neg earth, it means u can install an aftermarket stereo system with absoloute ease...!!!!

Maybe the people u r talking have no idea wat ur on about?
